Priests Serving Trinity
The Rev.Dr. Peter Van Horne
The Rev. Dr. Peter E. Van Horne became Interim Pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church, Kirksville, on November 1, 2009. Dr. Van Horne was born and reared in Idaho in an active Methodist family and became an Episcopalian in 1963. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1967 with a degree in history, education and French. In 1970 he received his Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific (Berkeley, California) and his M.A. in Church history from the Graduate Theological Union. He and his wife, Beverly, were married the day after he graduated from seminary. Dr. Van Horne was ordained Deacon and Priest in 1970 in his home Diocese of Idaho. Beverly and Peter have two sons: Sam, who is finishing his PhD in at the University of Iowa, and Mike, who works in the art industry in New York City. Beverly graduated from the Episcopal School for Ministry in 2004 and was ordained a priest in the Diocese of Missouri. She is the Priest-in-Charge of Trinity Episcopal Church, De Soto. Peter has served congregations in Idaho, California, Hawaii and Missouri, and for nine years was Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Hawaii. He has a passion for helping congregations to be healthy and active communities of faith, and received his Doctor of Ministry degree in Congregational Studies in 2001 from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. When he is not at home with Beverly in Bonne Terre, he is missed by their three cats – Tigger, Louie, and Phoebe – to whom he is allergic. For fun Peter does genealogical research on the Internet, reads adventure and science fiction novels, and dabbles in astronomy.
The Rev. Carrol K. Davenport--Priest Associate
Carrol, a native of Virginia, has been our non-stipendiary associate priest since her ordination to the priesthood in 2006. Her full-time ministry is with Hospice of Northeast Missouri, serving as chaplain and bereavement coordinator. Carrol is interested in faith in action – how we live out what we believe beyond the walls of the church. In her free time she enjoys being with her family (husband Mike, daughters Brittany and Kathleen), writing, photography, knitting, yoga and reading. One of her favorite authors is Jon Kabat-Zinn, meditation teacher engaged in bringing mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine. Carrol is also the author of the blog Staying Awake, which can be found at http://stayingawakeinmo.blogspot.com
